The Simple Life
Havn't things have changed since I was a kid. Everything seems dangerous and you constantly observe (with slight frustration) children being mollycoddled by their minders in public.
I have noticed the change when not being able to recrate memories from my childhood upon any likely whim. I like to encourage my nephew and neice to enjoy things I did when i was young, for instance. In some was, I have succeeded and in some ways I have not had to try at all.
But on a strictly light- heated note; it seems my inital reasoning for differentiation in TV shows was due to cultural variations. But it goes further than this. For example, the Bananas In Pyjamas (an indigenous icon of Australian television) is now lacklustrely animated, as you see is Thomas The Tank Engine. I was also intregued to see Sooty is alive and well in the UK; however the original host, Matthew is not. I have also been keeping my eye out for the British version of Play School (which features a green Humpty Dumpty puppet;) which is in fact the original version. I even read in the Daily Mail yesterday afternoon that they have introduced pink Lego bricks in aid of attracting more girls to the toy... I just don't get it, it's just not right. But the whole Lego thing is a whole other story..
I question the fact if it is dangerous to live in the past- or if things like this just don't matter and are constantly subject to change. But what also comes to mind is the old saying which begins with "if it ain't broken..." It is a shame though, but I realise I am in reality, revisiting my enjoyable childhood from adult eyes.
